Whats On On Islay This Week

The initiative for the "What's on on Islay this week" was started last year and I think it's great that the Islay and Jura Marketing and Tourism Group continue with the weekly leaflets. They will be available on the ferries and with most accommodation providers on the island. The leaflet contains all the activities for a particular week including the church services on Islay. Maggie Woodman will send me a copy every week which will be available for download as a PDF from this blog. For a direct download look for the logo in the left-hand column.

Another interesting fact to mention is the start of the visitor welcome evenings. Tonight is the kick-off of the first welcome evening this season at the RSPB Loch Gruinart. The Visitors welcome evenings on Islay take place on Monday nights at eight, until the end of October, on different locations on Islay, but mainly in the distilleries. The evenings are presented by someone from the local tourist board and contain music, dance, information, a raffle and a welcome dram with clootie dumpling. click here for this years schedule.

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
