Waxwing Spotted in Port Charlotte

Jeremy Hastings, Islay's Wilderness Guide, sent me an email this morning telling me that a waxwing was spotted today in Port Charlotte. These birds come to Britain every so often from north eastern europe and Russia. The last time a waxwing was spotted on Islay was 4 years ago, so this was quite an exciting event. The RSPB writes about the waxwing: "The waxwing is a plump bird, which is slightly smaller than a starling. It has a prominent crest. It is reddish-brown with a black throat, a small black mask round its eye, yellow and white in the wings and a yellow-tipped tail."
