A walk to Sgarbh Breac - Remote north west of Islay

Today another post from Teresa Morris of Islay Wildscapes with many stunning images from the remote north-west of Islay, the area between Bunnahabhain and Rhuvaal lighthouse to be precise. After spending yesterday photographing the red deer rut on Jura, today Teresa walked from Bunnahabhain to Sgarbh Breac, the highest point on this part of the island.

Bunnahabhain

Teresa Morris: Northwest from Bunnahabhain is the summit of Sgarbh Breac 364m. A steady climb to its summit over grassy and heathery slopes is rewarded with dramatic views of the Sound of Islay, Jura, Scarba, Colonsay and Mull. The summit has a trig point from which the Rhuval lighthouse can be clearly seen on the north coast of Islay. Looking west towards Mala Bholsa evidence of the former sea level with raised beaches are seen. Further to the west the cliffs of Sanaig, Nave Island and Ardnave point dunes dominate the skyline. Sgarbh Breac provides a stunning panorama vista of the Paps of Jura and view looking south down the Sound of Islay to McArthurs Head and across the eastern skyline of Islay. Continue reading.....

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
