Ride of the Falling Rain 2013

It was my intention to join this years 160km ride on Islay but unfortunately a move of house within a few weeks prevents me from joining. For those who do come to Islay for some great cycling the organiser of the ride, brian palmer, has some valuable advice. "If you're intending to join us for the ride of the falling rain on sunday august 4th, please make sure that you have accommodation booked as well as your ferry travel if arriving by car. Due to the Islay Festival of the Sea being held in Port Ellen this year over the same weekend, we've decided to suspend the usual hill climb in favour of offering those who wish to do so, the opportunity to attend the festival, thus occupying a saturday afternoon and possibly early evening."

"Similarly, there will be no collective munching on the Saturday eve, partly due to the festival, the post Ardbeg half-marathon ceilidh in Bowmore, and because very few riders and partners availed themselves of this last year. However, it is still the intention to hold a pasta party at Port Mor Centre in Port Charlotte on the Sunday eve, and i'd be very welcoming if those who wish to attend would let me know in order to sort out numbers for the caterer. this will probably cost around £10 or £12 pounds per person, with a lower rate for kids. On this latter point, if you will be cycling with children during the day, you are more than welcome to do so. However, please note that you are entirely responsible for their welfare during the ride. Though traffic on Islay is rarely a problem at anytime, particularly on a Sunday, the ride does not take place on closed roads, and it is the height of the summer season. Mainland visitors in cars don't always adapt well to narrow country roads. If there's anything else you need to know, please hesitate not to contact brian@thewashingmachinepost.net and for those intending on joining us, we look forward to seeing you at Debbie's Bruichladdich around 9:30-9:45am on sunday 4th august for a 10am start."
