Online Petition Islay Ferry

The Laddieblog wrote today about an online petition which started this month. The petition was started by Joan Richardson and calls for a review of the ferry service to Islay and an immediate fare reduction based upon the fact that other Scottish islands will benefit from the Road Equivalent Tariff pilot which will commence later this year or next year. The southern islands of Argyll were not included in this pilot which caused widespread protests. The full text of the petition is as follows: "Petition by Joan Richardson calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to commence a review of ferry services to develop a long-term strategy for lifeline services to 2025 and provide an immediate minimum discount of 40% on ferry fares." I found more ferry news on the BBC Scotland website. BBS reports that council workers across Scotland are due to strike on Wednesday over pay. This could mean for Argyll and Bute that schools may be affected by non-teaching staff taking strike action and the disruption of ferry services between Easdale, Luing, Appin, Dunoon and Rothesay. The same report also mentioned that the ferry between Islay and Jura will run as a passenger service only due to a mechanical failure of the regular ferry. I will try to find out how serious this is and post more information here since this could affect plans of tourists who want to take a day-trip to Jura from Islay.

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
