New Islay Ferry MV Finlaggan Follow Up

The launch of the new Islay Ferry, MV Finlaggan, caused a wave on Youtube as well. Since yesterday afternoon several people have uploaded in total five videos of the ferry launch. I won't embed all the videos but the one that is included in this post gives a nice view from the shore side of the vessel and includes some spoken words and a clear bang of the whisky bottle, a Vintage Malt Whisky Company’s Finlaggan Islay single malt, hitting the steel of the vessel.

National media such as The Press and Journal published the news of the launch on their website. They wrote that Alison Bell, from Inverness, who was a winner in the naming competition, has witnessed the launch. Ms Bell said: 'As a native Ileach, I voted for Finlaggan as it is a very special place for me and I felt it was appropriate that the Islay ferry name was linked to the ancient seat of the Lords of the Isles, an important part of the island’s – and Scotland’s – rich history.' CMAL chairman Grenville Johnston said: 'MV Finlaggan is a fantastic new addition to the fleet and will serve one of our island communities for many years to come. We look forward to welcoming her to Scotland next year.' According to the Calmag magazin the ship is on target for delivery on April 7 2010 and, after trials in Scotland, it is expected that she will be on the Kennacraig to Islay route on May 1 2011.

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
