New Accommodations on Islay

A new tourist season is about to start and many accommodation owners have updated their websites and their listings on Islay Info with new pictures and other information. The updating of the many listings is keeping me very busy, together with quite a few new accommodations on the island that have been included on the website. For those of you searching for availabilities in busy periods such as the Islay Festival here is your chance to find free accommodation. Here is an overview:

The first new Self Catering accommodation is Tigh na Creag in Port Wemyss. This is a spacious self catering cottage which has everything you could need when you want a home from home in Islay. Suitable for anyone looking for quality and comfort in this lovely friendly seaside village. Tigh Na Creag is large enough for a family of 6 and cosy enough for couples to enjoy spending time together. Click here for their website

Opposite Ardbeg Distillery lies the beautiful Callumkill Estate. Besides stalking they also offer accommodation and recently they have fully renovated the former Shepherd's cottage, now called Ardbeg Cottage which has beautiful views over the south-east of Islay. Continue reading....

Two people from the Netherlands own a house on Islay and both of them decided to rent them out as holiday accommodation. I was invited to build one new website for both houses. One of the houses can be found between Bowmore and Bridgend and is called Ard Chruaidh, Gaelic for Bold Hill. This lovely cottage offers stunning views over Loch Indaal. The other house, called Hillcrest, can be found in Portnahaven, next to OK corner, and also offers dramatic views over Portnahaven and the Atlantic Ocean. Both houses have recently been renovated and because they are new there is a good chance that there still are plenty of availabilities.

Bowmore has two new very exclusive holiday homes, both in Shore Street. The first one is called "The Saddlers". This is a five bedroom three bathroom traditional two-storey house on the sea side of Shore Street which looks out directly over Bowmore Harbour. This luxurious holiday home can sleep up to ten people! On the other side of Shore Street, at no 7 to be precise, is another luxurious holiday home. It is a 4 bedroom traditional stone built house which can be found next to the veterinary surgery and opposite the "Holy Coo" Bistro. The house was completely renovated in the second half of 2013 with new furniture throughout.

Port Ellen has a new self catering accommodation as well. Margaret Hastie runs "The Grange" Guesthouse and from April 2014 they offer self catering accommodation as well. For more info or to book please visit www.islaygrange.com

Not far from Port Ellen is the Oa Peninsula. At Ineraval, 6 miles from Port Ellen, is a new accommodation as well, a beautiful self catering Farmhouse in a stunning remote and very peaceful location.

All the other accommodations on Islay, well over 200 Hotels, B&B's and Self Catering houses and flats can be found at the Islay Info accommodation section

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
