Malt Advocate Magazine writing about Islay Distilleries

Last Friday I wrote about the 'Big Picture' showing all nine Islay Distillery Managers together, which is a unique and very exclusive happening. Furthermore I mentioned that this picture was shot for the American magazine Malt Advocate to be used in this quarters feature article about Islay and its distilleries.

Today John Hansell, Publisher & Editor of Malt Advocate magazine, contacted me. He was pleasantly surprised to find the picture on this blog. John visited Islay in May and visited each distillery and their managers. The result is an Islay Whisky special titled 'Islay Whiskies are Smokin' in this issue (fourth quarter 2007) of Malt Adocate magazine, of 8,000 words, which is the equivalent of four or five of their standard-length feature stories. There are a few more enjoyable Islay whisky pieces, one from Steven Beaumont who participated in the Islay whisky Festival, a story from Jonny McCormick about Black Bowmore and Gavin Smith did a nice historical perspective on Islay Distilleries. On top of all that there is a large online picture gallery available on their website with pictures from Islay's Distilleries and Islay's landscape. Subscriptions can be ordered online for $40.00 per year. Check for availability of individual issues.

Hello all -

Sorry for the silence about my month long trip to the UK (a week in Islay and 2 days in Arran started it off)! Still trying to get myself organized. Anyway, when I returned, the latest issue of Malt Advocate was in my pile of mail - WOW, the articles are amazing, have been reading a little at a time lest I sit down and rush through the issue.

It will take me a bit more to update the blog about my trip but the two highlights had to be coming upon Jim McEwan during our Bruichladdich tour and speaking with him (and mentioning that we would see him at Whiskey Fest New York in a little over a month) and having a very small late day tour at Bunnahabhain (just my partner and I) and out wandered John MacLellan with an invitation to taste a dram of whiskey right from a cask....

Memorable indeed! I will post more later - Islay is a magical place.....Ann

Hi Ann, how good to hear from you! We missed you over here and it's great to hear that you had such a wonderful time on Islay. Look forward to read about your whereabouts!

Guess I have to find myself a copy of the Malt Advocate magazine, seems it's really very interesting with so much Islay in it :-)

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
