Loch Laphroaig - Help my Plot is Flooded

Many of us, if not all, know the sign opposite the Laphroaig distillery. The sign marks the area where the many Friends of Laphroaig have their plot of Islay land.

Friends of Laphroaig land

The text on the sign says:

These grounds are the property of Laphroaig Distillery reserved for the Friends of Laphroaig who have a lifetime lease of an unregistered plot which is recorded at the distillery and who are entitled to a yearly ground rent of one Dram of Laphroaig to be claimed in person at the distillery.

What it perhaps should say is that in wet periods of the year, like last weekend, canoes instead of wellies are provided for to find your plot and in order to plant your country flag the use of a diving suit can be part of the procedure. Sláinte! :-)

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
