Time to Kill the Piggy Moneybox
Thursday, April 09 2009
Get your hammers and axes out, it's time to kill your Piggy Moneybox. On Easter Saturday your coins are needed for a large and unique fundraising effort on Islay by IDEA. IDEA (Islay Disabled Endeavours and Action) is a small organisation who provide support services for adults living in Islay and Jura who are disabled, have learning difficulties or mental health issues. We aim to promote independence and equality for disabled people and tackle social exclusion in an isolated rural environment.
Easter Saturday 11th April 11th 2009 will see IDEA's largest fund raising effort yet to establish a £30,000 reserve fund for Islay Disabled Endeavours and Action (IDEA). Their efforts thus far have seen almost one quarter of the required amount raised. It is imperative that the balance is secured early in this new financial year in order that the new management team at IDEA can attempt to procure the funds necessary for it to remain viable. The loss of IDEA would have a massive impact on the provision of organized social interaction for the elderly on Islay.
The Lifeline For IDEA project will hopefully see a line of donated coins of any denomination stretch along the pathways of Bowmore beginning at 10.30 am from the Round Church, down Main Street, along Shore Street and eventually ending up at the IDEA Resource Centre around 2pm to coincide with the start of IDEA Easter Fayre.
