Isle of Islay Home Page in Japan

  Friday, January 05 2007

Hallo everybody in Islay Weblog,

I am happy to see that my webs are introduced here. My name is Takeshi Mogi, a pharmacist in Tokyo Japan. I visited Islay first in 1994 with my two nephews. It was just two days but everything was wonderful and I have been an Islay lover since. I had trouble with getting information to visit Islay at the time and started Isle of Islay Homepage in 1996 to support Japanese people who want to visit the island. It shows how to get and enjoy Islay. I remember only two webs including mine specialized in islay at the time.

I have been a subscriber of the Ileach since 1995. Islay was already famous as a special whisky island among Japanese whisky lovers but I learned as a reader that the island had various people, things and places. I thought Japanese people should learn more about the island. I started Ileach Japan in May 2003. It contains some translated articles from every issue of the Ileach newspaper. I always try to contain general news. I take couple of days to translate them but the web works as the fastest media informing news from Islay.

I started piping in 1995. I can play many tunes including some piobaireachds now. I speak a little Gaelic too. There is a funny story about the reason why I started learning it. I was sure before my first visit to Scotland that everybody spoke Gaelic there. I learned it with a tape and a text book at home for three months before flying to Scotland. Of course I met only few Gaelic speakers. I met Christine Logan a Gaelic speaker in Bowmore distillery. Our friendship remains still now. My Gaelic skill is not much but I have a web about Scottish Gaelic and this has a good range of Gaelic links.

I visited Islay with my family in 1996 and 2002 again. We enjoyed Islay very much and my daughter got interested in Scotch whisky through the visits. She was a school pupil when we visited Islay in 1996 but now she is a student studying zymology in a university. We visited Islay last year again and she had working experience in Bowmore distillery. She wants to have a job in a distillery.

This is my story associated with Islay. I am happy if you remember me as a good Islay supporter in Japan.

I have another web about Japanese whisky and distillery
