Happy Islay Summer Holidays

The first of September already, time flies, and while I am already preparing our next Islay Trip in September (27 September to 8 October) I am reading about other people's experiences on this magnificent island. Today I ran into a new website with a travelogue and pictures from Islay, which is the homepage of the German Schobert Family who spent their summer holidays on Islay in 2006 and 2007. They have created two photo galleries on their website, one from 2006 and one from 2007. The photo galleries have English comments but the rest of the site is in German. Besides pictures of their three kids they have a lot of interesting pictures from Islay which are worth having a look.

They also have a travelogue on their site as well and I know a few words of German so here's a little translation: their holiday on Islay lasted almost three weeks, which is a considerable length compared to a lot of other people. They arrived on Islay on August 22nd and left on September 12 and stayed in a cottage near Nerabus. The rest of the travelogue tells about their trips, walks and the great time they had on Islay. They end with the following sentence:

'Ein schöner Urlaub ist zu Ende. Eines wissen wir aber ganz genau: Islay wird uns wieder sehen...'

Which means so much as: 'A wonderful holiday has ended. But one thing we are very sure about: Islay will see us again'

There's actually more than that: There's also a fairly new blog, which has everything from their visit to Islay a few weeks ago. I've been following them through their holiday for almost the whole time.

It's not linked from the homepage for some reason, so I'll let you try to find it ;-)

If I'm not mistaken it should be the following link: www.schobert.net/blog. I didn't check it thoroughly though but I dont think there are many families in Germany with kids called Malin and Lena who visited Islay a few weeks back ;-)

They also have a video from Machir Bay on youtube but that only shows the kids. I guess we have figured them out completely ;-)

Just stumbled upon this. Yeah, that is the address. It is intentionally not linked form the homepage in order to not bother the world with more or less private stuff intended to keep friends and family informed (a far better way that writing postcards ;-) ).
However if somebody is interested, of course you are welcome to subscribe / visit the site.

Unfortunately there will be no Islay report in 2008, but I am pretty sure that we'll be back in 2009...

Enjoy,
michael

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
