Islay Show 2007

The 2007 Islay Show, the 161st edition if I'm correct, was held on the show field in Whin Park at Bridgend. The show is organised by the Islay, Jura and Colonsay Agricultural Association and was held for the first time in 1838! The show is traditionally held on the second Thursday in August but due to the foot and mouth outbreak in England, more in an earlier post, cattle and sheep were not present because of the transport ban, so it was a stripped show with only horses, dogs and agricultural machines. But because of the good weather, the sun was shining, and the prospect of the foot and mouth outbreak not spreading any further, it was a pleasant day after all. Next year hopefully there will be a 'full' Islay Show on August 14.

Arra Fletcher from the Persabus Pottery was present at the show, also to watch Jessica Fletcher and her horse Hansel, and took some pictures which he sent today. The Images are available in the Islay Show Media Gallery.

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
