Port Charlotte Pictures

Today I have updated the Islay Weblog Media Gallery with pictures from Port Charlotte. There are nine pictures in the gallery showing images which I took last year in May. Port Charlotte dates back to 1828 and was established by Frederick Campbell who named the village after his wife. As you can see Port Charlotte is a very picturesque and authentic little village located on the shores of Loch Indaal. The village is home to the rewarded Museum of Islay Life which is a must for every visitor, if you ask me. The museum is housed in a former church building and displays items from Islay's very rich history, from which most of them are a gift from the people on Islay or from archeological excavations. Opposite the Museum is The Croft Kitchen, an excellent place to stop for coffee and scones or a meal and enjoy the lovely views over Loch Indaal. Following the Main Street with it's lovely white painted houses you will find the Port Charlotte Hotel and Restaurant where an excellent meal can be combined with a dram from the hotel bar (reservations are recommended). There is much more to see and do in Port Charlotte but I will save that for later.
