Islay's Kilmeny Church Open for Visitors

  Saturday, July 28 2007

If you are looking for somewhere different for a cup of tea or coffee why not try Kilmeny Church on a Thursday? The church is open during the months of July and August for teas and coffees with home baking, and there is usually home baking for sale as well as a small sales table in the vestry. Whilst enjoying your refreshments there is a chance to look at the photographs on display in the porch, photographs of the parish and its people from times past and present. This has proved to be very popular with both locals and visitors, especially those who may be researching their ancestry, and also for refreshing memories: they are a good talking point.

Kilmeny Church is situated on the main Port Askaig to Bowmore road on the outskirts of the village of Ballygrant and sits in secluded wooded grounds. It is a quiet and peaceful setting away from the bustle of life and is all the more welcoming as it has just acquired a new ceiling and roof. The church is open on Thursdays between 10.30am and 12.30pm and again between 2.00pm and 4.00pm for teas, coffees and cakes. Sunday service is at 9.45am and a cup of tea is served in the vestry after the service. This is an ideal time for congregation and visitors to meet and still leaves the rest of the day to explore the island. If you cannot manage on a Thursday why not visit us on a Sunday at 9.45 and still have a chance to see the photographs after the service. We welcome everyone to our warm and friendly church and look forward to seeing you.
