Now what's this with a picture from Rome you might wonder.... In Roman times the most important part of a city was the Forum. Usually a large square in the city centre where trading took place and gatherings were held. The picture shows the old Forum in Rome. And now, thousands of years later, we still have forums but they have become a virtual thing, running on a computer somewhere and only accessible through the internet. Amazing when you think about it, but the basic principle never changed. The modern forum is a place where people gather, talk, have fun and discuss their favorite subjects as well, just like in the old days.
When I started the Islayinfo Website in 2004 I immediately started a forum, basically to try and get like-minded people together to discuss everything Islay has to offer. The forum back then was constantly under attack from hackers and fake registrations occured daily, which was a pain to manage and no longer a pleasure to run, and therefor I stopped it all together a little over a year ago.
Ever since that time I had the feeling that it would be great to start up a new Islay forum and I decided to give it another go. I receive quite a few emails from people asking various questions about Islay and I think when people post them in a forum, they not only get an answer, but others can benefit from that information as well. After some time the forum could become a valuable source of information and hopefully a place where like-minded people could meet from time to time. No different than the Romans did so many years ago.
So are there any Romans out there who are willing to discuss their favorite island in a modern forum and become part of a little Islay Community? Some of you already joined the forum and started the first little discussions. If you think joining a forum is your thing, and why not when you can talk about Islay and have your questions answered, please come in and have a look around. The forum can be accessed by following this link: Islay Forum
If you already registered at the Islay Weblog you don't have to register again. Since the forum is integrated in this weblog you only require to register once. If you haven't registered yet and like to post a message in the forum or comment on the weblog, follow this link to register: Register as a new user here. When you have registered you will end up in the moderation queue. When the forum admin, being myself, approves of the registration (this is to keep out spammers etc) you will be sent a password and you are ready to participate in the forum.
See you soon :-)
