If you're into Malt Whisky and have a passion for sailing, try the annual Classic Malt Cruise. An unforgettable experience which takes place in the month of July. The Classic Malt Cruise is a 200-mile sailing trip in the fabulous Inner Hebrides of Scotland from one island to the next. The trip is set by the three great classical Diageo whisky distilleries of Oban, Talisker and Lagavulin on Islay and starts at Oban, then to Skye and after that south to the Isle of Islay. In between these 'obligatory' stops the crew chooses its own route depending on the weather and their preferences.
A quote from the offical website: 'United by a passion for sailing, scenery and single malt whisky, crews embark on a 200-mile voyage through the Inner Hebrides, choosing their own route from Oban to Skye, and back south to Islay. Hospitality offered by the coastal Classic Malts distilleries of Oban, Talisker and Lagavulin provides the social focus for a relaxed fortnight of cruising.'
This year's trip started at Oban on the 14th July with a superb buffet and music in the courtyard of the Oban Distillery. Cruisers from all over the world join this fabulous cruise and there are 82 yachts from 12 nations joining this magnificent trip. Yesterday was the final day of the Malt Classic Cruise which ended at the Lagavulin Distillery on Islay after they visited Caol Ila Distillery. At Lagavulin they were welcomed by Graham Logie (picture) and celebrated their last evening with a big party, catered by the management and staff of the Port Charlotte Hotel.
