Islay Web Directory

It started off as an idea to organize all the Islay related links I have and make them somewhat easier to manage and searchable too. After investigating several possibilities I decided that a whole new website was the best idea and that's how the new Islay Web Directoy was born. For those of you who are not familiair with a Web Directory, here is an explanation from Wikipedia:

A web directory or link directory is a directory on the World Wide Web. It specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links. A web directory is not a search engine, and does not display lists of web pages based on keywords, instead it lists web sites by category and subcategory. The categorization is usually based on the whole web site, rather than one page or a set of keywords, and sites are often limited to inclusion in only few categories. Web directories often allow site owners to directly submit their site for inclusion, and have editors review submissions for fitness. Most of directories are very general in scope and list websites across a wide range of categories, regions and languages. But there are also some niche directories which focus on restricted regions, single languages, or specialist sectors.

The new Islay Web Directoy is intended to give a complete overview of all the Islay (related) websites and to enable website owners to add their own website to the directory. The websites of Jura, Colonsay and Gigha are also included based on the fact that they are Islay's closest neighbours. Besides links the Islay Directory can be used for submitting Islay related articles as well which will be included in the same way as a link. These articles usually have a promotional nature and are intended to promote a website or business.
