Islay Today: Storm, Surfing Geese and Peaty Water

The storm that hit western Scotland today with wind speeds up to 60Mph caused flooding in several places and disrupted ferry services to and from several islands in the Inner and Outer Hebrides. The ferries to and from Islay were cancelled this afternoon as well due to adverse weather. The ferries will hopefully sail again tomorrow, although the 07:00 hrs will not depart from Port Ellen but from Port Askaig. Teresa Morris from Islay Wildscapes is still on Islay but skipped the huge swell at Saligo Bay due to the bad weather conditions. Instead Teresa tried to find some shelter in the woods at Bridgend and took a picture of the river Sorn behind the Woollen Mill. Continue reading.....

Teresa said: "the River Sorn was in spate with all the rain. This shot was taken by the woollen mill this afternoon, with nice autumn colours, also the very peaty water is well visible."

Secondly a shot of the Pale Bellied Brents who were enjoying their 'surfing' in the waves near to Black Rock at Loch Indaal. There was a huge swell on the loch with waves crashing well up the shore. They were busy feeding on the seaweed which was being churned up by the waves. As each waves approached them they dived under the surf. Thanks Teresa!
