Severe Weather Warning - Islay Ferries Disrupted

The Met Office issued the following severe weather warnings for western Scotland - Argyll and Bute on Saturday 25 October: Gale force winds: "There is a moderate risk of a severe weather event affecting some northern parts of the UK during Saturday. Southwesterly winds will increase to severe gale force in places, giving gusts of 70 or perhaps 80 mph. The wind will become westerly later in the day and will then ease slowly."

Heavy Rain: Rain will become heavy and persistent across west Scotland through Saturday. Generally 30 to 40 mm of rain will fall onto already saturated ground, but locally up to 70 mm over high ground.

Calmac had already cancelled the morning ferries and will review the situation later this afternoon.

Updates on the current and expected weather and ferry situation are available at The Met Office and at Calmac's Service Status Page.

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
