Islay Quilters from the square in Bridgend present an Exhibition of work done by members and friends every two years: the next exhibition will be held this year from 16 to 23 July in Ballygrant Hall. As well as the exhibits of work completed, there are also challenges open to all. There are two open competitions one for miniatures (A4 size) with the title “Small is Beautiful†and one for larger quilts (each side must be at least 1 metre) with the title “Flower of Scotlandâ€. There is also a competition for those aged 16 or under which can be individual or group work. There is no restriction on size and the title is “Scotlandâ€. The Scotland titles have been chosen because of the Commonwealth Games, the Independence Vote and the 700th Anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn but these themes do not have to be included!
This year there will also be a cushion competition. The entrant can choose the design as long as the size is 18†by 18â€. Entry forms can be obtained from the Workshop in Islay House Square, from any Committee Member or can be downloaded from our website at www.islayquilters.org.uk. At the Exhibition there will be lots to see and buy: quilts, cushions, fabrics and haberdashery from our own shop as well as from The Wool and Needlecraft Centre, Oban. The entry charge of £3 for adults and £1 for children includes refreshments.
Our 2014 Charity Quilt, which is in the process of being made and which will be raffled at the Islay Show in August, will be on display. Raffle tickets will be available at the exhibition. This year we are looking for sponsors to help us with the costs involved. If you are interested in helping us please contact us in the first instance by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
