Islay Pictures - To Photoshop or not to Photoshop

I wasn't sure wether to mention this blog or not. When I first saw the Islay pictures of Jens Mayer my initial thoughts were that his pictures are a bit (over)photoshopped or whatever the term is you use for that. If you take a good look you can see that at least some of them are manipulated in some sort of way but the end effect is clearly stunning. The colours are very intense and sometimes almost unreal. After seeing them several times I started to like them better although I know the colours are not the same as the original view on Islay would present to you, no matter what light conditions you have. I decided to mention them on the blog anyhow and I will let you decide for yourself whether you like it or not.

Curious as I am I felt a bit jealous about the results Jens had with his pictures and I tried to do the same myself. Therefore I conducted a little experiment and "photoshopped" a picture of Loch Ardnahoe which I took a month ago. You can see the original directly from the memory card and the one I manipulated. As you can see below the results are actually quite nice although I'm far from the level of expertise Jens seems to have. I'm also not sure if I should do this with all my pictures. I'm curious how others feel about this and you're welcome to comment on this post or send me an email

Ron, I can't speak for Jens, but some of the pictures are deliberately "overprocessed". If you look at some of the tags you will notice that some of them are tagged "xprocess" (also known as cross processed). That's a special way to treat a picture, an artistic expression if you want. Just a different way of looking at something. Some people will like it, some won't. As with any art.

Hi Armin, thanks for letting me know what it is Jens used for his pictures. I tried to do it myself in Photoshop but failed terribly! At least I found out a few other tricks that might come in handy ;-)
