Sunday the 24th Bruichladdich Distilleryâs Open Day today, and while the legendary Bruichladdich Dayâs sunny weather didnât arrive until late afternoon, the rain stayed away and a sociable, fun afternoon was had by the many who attended. Lively music and dance performances were given in the distillery square by Islay Pipe band, Maverick Angels, Contraband and Ella Edgarâs dancers, and the crowd enjoyed the delightful singing of Norma Munro and entertaining songs from Robin Laing, in his only appearance at this yearâs Feis Ile. Jim McEwan gave two sessions of his famous tastings Masterclasses, to tremendous interest and enjoyment of the many who attended; especially those who long to be âwarriorsâ!
Robin Laing and Ian MacIlwain launched and signed their new books; Robin Laing brought his latest book, âThe Whisky Legends of Islayâ and Ian MacIlwain his recently published âBottled Historyâ. Sunday night was rounded off with the popular âClootie Dumpling Ceilidhâ, where great fun was had, dancing to Islayâs well known Accordion & Fiddle Band and listening to superb local musical talent. The ceilidhâs supper gave the chance to sample some fine home-made dumpling, made by Annie and Kate. This evening, Friends of Laphroaig Distillery opened their new Friends of Laphroaig Museum at a private function for members. During the day, Open Bowling was available at Port Ellenâs green, and a guided walk was given, taking participants to the American Monument and the RSPBâs reserve on the Oa.
Carl Reavey, editor of the Ileach uploaded a video from last Saturday, the opening of the festival at Lagavulin Distillery.
