Following the recent report of a technical fault on the forward ramp system onboard MV FINLAGGAN, the vessel underwent a full assessment and repairs were undertaken at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead. Commissioning of the vessel’s system has begun in earnest and it is expected that MV Finlaggan will leave the repair yard later this week.
The initial assessment concluded that the problem was caused by contaminated oil in the hydraulic system, which powers the bow door, bow ramp, stern ramp and mezzanine deck. To address this issue, the hydraulic cylinders and pumps were sent to a specialist subcontractor to be stripped down, decontaminated and rebuilt. All the components have now been cleaned, refurbished to as new and returned to the ship.
The hydraulic pipework has been flushed clean and a new charge of oil filled in the system. Other small guarantee defects have also been addressed by Remontowa shipyard and their suppliers.
The safety of passengers is of paramount importance and CMAL has been working closely with Remontowa shipyard, subcontractors and the operator to complete the repairs as quickly as possible, to ensure minimal disruption to the Islay service. For updates and other information visit www.cmassets.co.uk
