Islay Annual Show Pictures

Mark Unsworth from Islay Studios was kind enough to write some lines and send some pictures of this years Islay, Jura and Colonsay Agricultural Show, the 162nd already. Mark: "The show was held in mainly cloudy but warm conditions and appeared to have a good attendance with many traders happy with their day's business. The overall champion of champion for livestock went to Tom Epps of Ardnave Farm with his fine looking bull calf. The picture right shows some of the judging in the pony section.

The show was also the launch pad for the new Islay tartan produced by the Islay Woolllen Mill of which there was a small sample on display for people to inspect. Gordon Covell of the woollen mill donated four metres (enough for a kilt) of the material to be raffled off to raise funds for MacMillan Nurses and this raffle raised over £250. Organisation of the raffle was undertaken by Neil Scott and Discover Islay.

the Dunlossit piglets always are a big attraction

An owl was carved out of a tree trunk and auctioned at the end of the show

After the owl carving the strength competitions started showing Eion Brown from the RSPB tossing a weight over the bar.

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
