Ileach Newspaper of the year
Wednesday, January 17 2007
After thirty three years in existence, Islay and Jura's independent community newspaper, the Ileach, has been awarded the 'community newspaper of the year' in the highlands and islands media awards. The newspaper also won the UHI millennium institute award.
Brian Palmer, longest serving member of the editorial team said:
"we're all rather taken aback by this. Carl (Reavey - Ileach editor) has certainly made considerable improvements to the content over his years of tenure, but the Ileach is very definitely a team effort, however cliched that sounds. we're all very happy"
The award will be presented at a 'press ball' in nairn (near Inverness) on friday 2nd february. Aside from the uhi trophy, there is a cash prize of 300 pounds, 100 of which will be donated to a local charity.
