The whereabouts of Iain Henderson from Laphroaig

People on Islay, fan's of Lahproaig and other whisky enthusiasts will certainly remember Iain Henderson, who was the successful distillery manager from the Laphroaig distillery on Islay since 1990. Iain Henderson worked in many other distilleries before that, twelve if I am correct and The Glenlivet distillery in the Speyside was one of them. Today I picked up a message that Iain Henderson is working as general manager in England's first whisky distillery where he met Prince Charles who was on a tour through East Anglia. Iain Henderson already met Prince Charles during his time as distillery manager at Laphroaig in 1994.

Quote from EDP24, a local Norwich website:
Iain Henderson, general manager, who met the prince in 1994 at the famous Scottish Laphroaig distillery said: “The prince is very knowledgeable about whisky and is an enthusiast of malt whisky, so I was not surprised that he accepted the invitation to come to what is his local distillery now. He wanted to know about the distilling process and why this is the first in England for 120 years.”

The distillery Iain now works for is called the St. George's Distillery and is part of The English Whisky Co. The distillery is being established as the first and only registered whisky distilling company in England. Quote: "Our objective is to produce excellent quality whisky that will be able to compete with some of the finest whiskies currently on the market. We aim to use the very best local ingredients, in turn giving us a selection of unique and truly excellent whisky."

St.George's Distillery became operational in December 2006. Currently works are in progress to create office space and a visitors centre and the distillery expects to welcome visitors not before late spring 2007. The distillery is located in East Anglia close to the A11 between Thetford and Norwich. With Iain Henderson as general manager the whisky will most likely become a success but he will have to wait at least three years for a result. The distillery produced its first 'run' on 12th December 2006 and filled their first barrel of 'St. George's whisky' soon afterwards.

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
