Happy New Year from Ardnave Islay
Thursday, January 01 2009
By Teresa Morris: New Years Day started with the most beautiful of starry skies together with the new moon, with a bitterly cold south easterly wind. By the time of sunrise at around 0900hours yet again the skies were clouding over so unfortunately no sunrise for the start of the year. The past few days have seen very dull grey misty days resulting from the high pressure system. The dunes and beach at Ardnave were covered with frost. Choughs were feeding in the dunes, along with small flocks of twite, goldfinch and snow bunting. The cattle which graze the dunes were enjoying their New Years day breakfast accompanied by a flock of starlings ! There were glimses of sun across Loch Gruinart towards Killinallan during the afternoon. The tide was fully out by mid afternoon at an exceptionally low level exposing rocks, sandbanks and seaweed which are not normally seen. It was a good day for a bracing walk along the shoreline !
May I offer my congratulations to Ron for the well deserved success in the For Argyll awards. A very happy New Year to all the readers of Islay Weblog, Teresa Morris, Islay Wildscapes.
