gran fondo ardbeg
Saturday, February 03 2007throughout europe and the uk, the current 'cycley fad of the moment' is the cyclosportive. they've been around for a while only not in such number and usually related to italian cycling - gran fondo campagnolo and gran fondo pinarello for example.
so, since we didn't want islay to be left out, last year we turned the annual 100 miler into 'gran fondo ardbeg' which this year, will take place on sunday 5th august. not that we're pretending the organisation will be anything like the 'real' cyclosportives - basically it's usually just the members of velo club d'ardbeg cycling round the island, but this year, due to a modest degree of outside interest and the fact that we've decided to use it to raise money for the braveheart fund, we're hoping for enough cyclists to create a mobile traffic jam. and as an added incentive, the half-way point is a stop at ardbeg's old kiln cafe.
