For Argyll Awards - (Islay) Winners Announced

What a way to start the New Year!! Only moments ago and later as planned due to problems at youtube, For Argyll uploaded a video with the announcements of the winners of the For Argyll Awards. I am extremely pleased to announce that Islay is very well represented by an taigh-osda being winner of best Accommodation and best Restaurant. Brian's Ride of the Falling Rain won in the best event category. I myself am over the moon with the fact that I won in all three categories I was nominated in being best blog, best community website and best tourism website with the Islay Info Website and my Islay Weblog. I am particularly pleased with the fact that this will hopefully have a positive effect on Islay, the people and tourism. This is what I wrote to Lynda Henderson from For Argyll:

Lynda, I just had a look for the first time at the video and I am chuffed... And over the moon as well. This is something that I, specially as an outsider, could only dream of and thought would never be possible. My thanks go out to you, Charles, and the others of the For Argyll team for making this possible! You have all done something for Argyll what nobody else has done before! Excellent!! I specially want to thank the people of Islay who have been so very supportive and I also want to say thanks to Carl Reavey and Brian Palmer from the Ileach newspaper who always help me out with everything. I received dozens of supportive emails in the last days which by themselves were already an award. Now I hope that these awards will give Islay even more positive publicity and hopefully more visitors, something the island needs in these financially difficult times!

My thanks also goes out to everyone who took the time and effort to vote in the last week as well as for all the supportive emails I received, I enjoyed each and everyone of them. THANKS VERY MUCH!

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
