Finlaggan and Islay Whisky by Scotland on TV

  Friday, February 15 2008

A little over a week ago I was contacted by Judith from Scotland on TV after they had noticed my article about their Islay videos. I was already impressed by the amount of videos they had made and they told me that more videos would become available soon. Today I received another email with the details of these new videos. Two of them show an interview they had with Donald Bell who is a member of the Finlaggan Trust and the other one is a video about the whisky on Islay.

The Finlaggan videos, or Islay Stories as Judith calls them, are very interesting and Donald Bell tells in the first part about the things that can be seen in the Finlaggan visitor centre and mentions the planned extension of the visitor centre. In the second video he takes the Scotland on TV people to the site of the Lords of the Isles and explains the layout and the buildings that can still be seen.

Here are the links to the interview with Donald Bell:

The Scotland on TV people also made a video about the whisky on Islay with contributions from most of the distilleries, which is also very interesting to watch. Iseabail Mactaggart explains the history and importance of the whisky industry for Islay and Michael Heads tells about the complexity of Ardbeg spirit and the shape of the stills. Other contributions are from Jack Dunford of Laphroaig and John MacLellan of Bunnahabhain. Click here to watch the Islay Whisky Video

About their visit to Islay Judith says: "Myself and a colleague visited Islay last November to film a series of three videos about the Island. We were really impressed by the stunning scenery, the wildlife and the friendliness of the people. Which lead into all these extra videos that we like to call Islay stories, and that would not have been possible without the 'Ileach' natural kindness." Judith also mentioned that there will be more videos available soon about the Woollen Mill and Ileach Newspaper so stay tuned!
