My Favourite Tree on Islay

Instead of posting one travel report of our holiday, it would be a huge one, I have instead decided to post some wee reports and pictures every now and then. Today I want to start with one of my favourite trees on Islay. You can find this particular tree on the Bunnahabhain road, half a mile before Ardnahoe near Torrabus at the Sound of Islay. The tree itself is magnificent in its own right as you can see in the first picture. In the second picture however you can see the position in the landscape, which makes it all the more stunning.

I have seen more images online of this particular tree and a very beautiful one, from Petter Rønningsen, is posted on the Islay Pictures Blog. In 2007 I posted an image of this tree in the Autumn travel report. The two images in this post were taken on the first day of our Islay spring holiday 2010.

The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
