Christmas Craft Markets by Made on Islay

This is the first of two articles to remind everyone to spend your pennies on Islay if you are looking for Christmas presents. Today information from the Made on Islay group, tomorrow more shopping tips for other shops on Islay. Made on Islay craft producers have been working hard for the Christmas season. If you’ve not visited them for a while please come along to a market near you, there are a wide range of products available at very reasonable prices direct from the producer. There is good banter and everyone is happy to explain and talk about their work with many able to produce commissions if you need something specific for a special present. Visit the market at the Columba Hall in Port Ellen and enjoy lunch, wonderful soups, a cuppa or home baking in the St. Johns Café.

At markets this year there will be ‘She who dares wears’ quality stone/gemstone jewellery; books by local authors: Bramble & Cultoon children’s stories, Becky Williamson’s very popular ‘Islay’s Coastline – a photographic tour of the coast of Islay’, Green Bug Productions wildlife discovery packs and wildlife related gifts; 2012 Islay calendar; inspiring photographic prints; wonderful knitted hats and scarves; original local artwork; cross stitch and local flower pressed pictures; candles and Christmas baking.

Done your main shop already?!, then come in for the last few stocking fillers and Christmas cards, colourful scrunchies for fashionable girls, keyrings, fridge magnets, place mats, bookmarks, Christmas decorations, kids personalised place mats or door memo boards.

By the time of writing the first market already took place but there are two more markets to go. The first one will be on Thursday 1 December in Port Ellen, Columba Hall, and the second one is Saturday the 10th December at the Islay High School Christmas Fair. The Made Islay Team look forward to seeing you at a market this festive season. With less money in your pockets keep some of it circulating on Islay and buy from local producers and shops. That way we all benefit!
