Islay is a great place for families to spend their holiday, I did mention that before did I? Well this summer it will be even better because there is so much to do for everyone and especially for kids. The Islay and Jura Youth Action Group & Toy Library have done a tremendous job in organising and compiling a huge list of activities. There is snorkelling, swimming, Commonwealth sports, LEGO club, horse riding, beach fun, nature exploration, cookery etc etc. Like I said, a huge list and from the 30th of June to 15th of August there are almost every day activities, sometimes even two or more activities on one day. And all of the activities are not only for the children on Islay but visiting kids can join too. And the good news is that most activities are free!
There are a few specials as well. On monday 21st of July there will be a special Bartitsu workshop for ages 6 - 21. Bartitsu incorporates jiujitsu with various combat style martial arts. Another special is Emma Hamilton, a professional hip hop dancer, who will be providing hip hop dance sessions on Monday 28th of July and Saturday 2nd of August. Emma's artist name is Emma Ready and you see her in action in this video. There is also a scripture union youth group that come over and do activities at the beach every day with the children - this year the theme is the "theatre" and it will take place from Monday 4th to Friday 8th of August at the main beach in Port Ellen 11.15am - 2.30pm
The entire programme is available as PDF download. Furthermore you can check the Islay Activities Page or Islay Event Calendar for a lot more indoor and outdoor activities for the entire family. I also advice to pick-up the latest copy of the Ileach, the islands newspaper, here you will find even more information on one day events and other activities. Have a great Summer!
