Cheap(er) flights to Islay

The regular flight service from Loganair, flying under the name of British Airways, offers flights to Islay airport from Glasgow. There are scheduled flights during week days and in the weekends. The standard fares on these regular services are £79 and £103 for a return ticket.

Loganair announced in spring last year that they will increase its service between Islay and Glasgow with extra flights during some weekdays and on Sunday offering cheaper tickets on these flights.

Quote from last years press release: British Airways franchise partner Loganair, is to increase its service between Islay and Glasgow with a third service on Monday, Thursday and Friday plus a new Sunday service. The new service will operate from 22nd May until 29th Sep 06. This new flight, the BA 8926 will depart Islay at 1440 arriving into Glasgow at 1525 and returning from Glasgow, BA 8925 at 1330 into Islay for 1415. The additional Sunday service, the BA 8928 will depart Islay at 17:40 arriving Glasgow at 18:25 and departing Glasgow at 16:30 arriving into Islay at 17:15 throughout the period 21 May to 24 September 2006.

Funny enough I couldn’t find on their website if they repeated the same schedule and extra flights during this summer season so I have put this to the test and booked myself a return ticket on the loganair website, seeing is believing right? I managed to get myself a ticket for £57.20 on an extra flight which is a lot cheaper than the standard fares. I also tried to book a flight leaving April and returning in May on a regular flight which was £127.20! So if you can book early and travel anywhere between the end of May and the end of September, providing they use the same schedule as last year, and use one of the extra flights you can save yourself somewhere between 40 and 70 pounds!
