Cantilena Summer Festival on Islay 2007

The Cantilena Summer Festival on Islay will be held from Sunday 1st to Saturday 7th of July and will include the Cantilena Festival Childrens Ensemble and The Cantilena Children's Festival of Art. The festival brings chamber music to Islay so that it can be played in the settings it was originally intended for. The group of artists will play music from famous composers like Mozart, Bach, Mendelssohn and Vivaldi on various locations on the island. In fact, this is one of the few opportunities to visit Islay House and enjoy wonderful classical music at the same time. And this might be the last time as well. Rumours are that Islay House will be up for sale in the near future, but this is not confirmed, so they will remain rumours (for now).

Following is the programme for the festival week:

  • Sunday 1st, 8pm, The Round Church Bowmore. 'Easy on the Ear' - Mozart
  • Monday 2nd, 8pm, The Old Kiln Cafe Ardbeg, 'All Vivaldi' including The Seasons
  • Tuesday 3rd, 8pm, The Malt Hall Lagavulin, 'String Quartets' including Haydn, Schubert & Mozart
  • Wednesday 4th, 8pm, The Columba Center Bowmore, 'Making a Violin' Elgar/Bach
  • Thursday 5th, 3pm, The Round Church Bowmore, 'Mainstream 1'
  • Friday 6th, 8pm, Islay House Bridgend, 'Mainstream 2'
  • Saturday 7th, 8pm, Islay House Bridgend, 'Last Night Fun' Including Mendelssohn's Octet.

Tickets are available from June 4th 2007 at C&E Roy, The Celtic House in Bowmore, £10.00 - £7.00 or via email: jennifershepherd(at)btinternet.com

    The Maggie

Buy The Maggie from Amazon The Maggie is one of Ealing studios lesser known comedies. It is however a 'gem' in the true sense of the word. The film has everything, humour, tragedy, pathos, romance. A wily old skipper of a Western Isles 'Puffer' and his motley crew lead all who come into contact with them a fine old time!
