Calmac News Summer 2013

There are a few news items worth mentioning here on the blog concerning Calmac, the leading ferry operator for the west of Scotland including Islay. "The Scotland-wide network of 84 VisitScotland Information Centres (VICs) - which welcome around 3.5 million visitors per year - will for the first time sell ferry tickets and book vehicles on all of Caledonian MacBrayne’s (CalMac) sailings." Since the Tourist Information Centre in Bowmore is also ran by VisitScotland they will also sell ferry tickets.

For Argyll reports that Calmac has won two awards: "The company has won a further two major awards at two separate awards ceremonies held last week (3rd week of June). The first one down was Public Transport Operator of the Year, awarded to the company in the Scottish Transport Awards – the third time the company has won it in four years. The second in the bag was an award for Customer Focus in the Scottish Business Awards. The prestigious Scottish Transport Awards 2013 bring together the transport community to recognise and celebrate industry achievements across Scotland."

Calmac is also running a series of roadshows at 15 busy locations in West central Scotland and Edinburgh over the summer to encourage more people to visit Scotland’s islands by ferry. The “Senses of Summer” roadshow venues include the Buchanan Galleries, Silverburn and St Enoch Centre in Glasgow, and Visit Scotland Visitor Information centres in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, Central station and Prestwick Airport. The roadshows will run from June until the end of September.
