Burns Night
Thursday, January 24 2008
Friday, January 25 is Burns Night. Robert Burns lived from 1759 to 1796 and is Scotland's most famous Poet. Robert Burns was born in Alloway, Ayrshire, in a poor farmers family who provided him with a good education at young age. He started writing poetry in 1783, used a traditional style and wrote in the Ayrshire dialect.
Auld Lang Syne is written by him and is sung traditionally every year at Hogmanay. On his birthday, celebrated by Scots from all over the world, a traditional Scottish meal will be served, accompanied with a good whisky and followed by poem reading.
Several websites write about Robert Burns and one website in particular has a special Burns Supper page
