From Bowmore to the Original Islay Malt

Bowmore Distillery, beautifully located on the shores of Loch Indaal and in the centre of the lovely town of Bowmore was founded in 1779. Bowmore is the oldest legal distillery on Islay. The distillery is owned and operated by Morrison Bowmore, which in turn is owned by Suntory of Japan. Bowmore Distillery produces a wide variety of whiskies of different ages and finishes and has distinct peaty and salty flavours.
Today, 16 November, Bowmore Distillery presented a complete re-branding of their entire range. They flew in a large number of the great and good from the world of single malts and related areas, accommodated them at Machrie Hotel and the distillery cottages in Bowmore and took them all out to lunch at the Harbour Inn, Bowmore.
After lunch all the guests were treated to a presentation in warehouse four from Mike Keiller and Glen Moore explaining why they felt this rebranding was necessary and why they have spent a great deal on re-vamping the visitor centre. According to Brian Palmer, responsible for the information and pictures and present at the presentation, the visitor centre is really nice. Since bowmore is Islay's oldest distillery, they are now marketing it as the 'Original Islay Malt'.
Everyone was given a tasting demonstration from their chief blender before being given tours of the distillery guided by the people who make the whisky. Bowmore also reveiled their new advertising which looks good and is very clever.
