Today I received an email from Mr Eneas Rainey who was on Islay, Port Ellen, for twenty years ago. On the 10th of June he and his club, The Ballymoney Model Flying Club (BMFC), will try to fly a model aircraft from the beach in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland, all the way to Port Ellen on Islay. The attempt will be made to raise money for the RNLI. Last year they managed to fly a model aircraft from Ballycastle to Rathlin island. They will be escorted by Red Bay Lifeboat to the north of Rathlin where Portrush Lifeboat will escort them to south of Islay where they will be met by the Islay Lifeboat and brought into harbour.

The attempt will be sponsored by Bushmills Distillery and will be an interesting event to watch when they enter Port Ellen. Now only hope and pray that the weather will cooperate and that they can successfully complete their attempt. More details of the BMFC can be found at: Ballymoney Model Flying Club

Update: There will be a miniature bottle of Bushmills Whiskey aboard the aircraft and possibly a camera for some nice aerial shots on approach to Port Ellen as the event is being filmed for use by Sky.
