The Cantilena Festival on Islay saw an important visitor appearing this week in the person of Alex Salmond, Scotland's First Minister from the Scottish National Party. Alex Salmond was invited to visit the Cantilena festival for the concert at the Bowmore Round Church. The concert started at 3pm this afternoon and afterwards the First Minister visited the Bowmore Distillery to see a display of hand made puppets by local childred.
Later in the afternoon Alex Salmond was presented with an individual bottle of Bowmore 25yr old. In his speech he said that he had visited Islay before but had never been to Bowmore but promised to return, but didn't insist on a free bottle each time! According to Mark Unsworth from Islay Studios, who was kind enough to send me the info and pictures, it has been a very long time ago that a serving First Minister visited the Isle of Islay.
